Corpus Christi (Expat Cinema)

EXPAT CINEMA is our monthly screening of a brand-new non-English arthouse film with English subtitles.

Twenty-year-old juvenile delinquent dreams of a career as a priest. But with his criminal record, Daniel has no chance. Society, as a young criminal, has disqualified him anyway. But on leave to work at a sawmill, Daniel is mistaken for a young priest. Initially hesitant, but he discovers that he is charismatic and can really help the villagers that are struggling with a collective trauma.

This gripping, Polish drama is based on real events: citizens pretending to be priests in remote villages. Nominated for the Oscar for best international film, which allows director Jan Komasa to join the illustrious list of compatriots such as Pawel Pawlikowski ('Cold War'). The look of actor Bartosz Bielenia is haunting and will stay with you for a long time to come.

PRESS

"Often moving but also disquieting and even intermittently funny, this drama unfurls a spiritual parable that is uniquely Polish but accessible to all." - The Guardian
